Waurn Ponds Police & SES Complex
Description: The facility includes 2,831 sqm of combined gross building area over two levels and on-site car parking for 88 cars. It will provide an operational hub for Victoria Police in a 24 hour police station and the South Barwon SES.
The design incorporates a myriad of materials including insitu concrete, patterned precast wall panels, brickworks, metal wall cladding, composite cladding, and metal feature fins. Vibrant colours and materials internally create a positive yet functional work environment. Hi-tech security and communications services are a major component of the works but a must in the operation of a modern emergency services complex.
The site required Cultural Heritage protocols be followed in a professional and respectful manner. There were also strict environmental plans that had to be implemented to protect neighbouring flora and fauna including the Growling Grass Frog and in the Waurn Ponds Creek the Yarra Pigmy Perch.
A tight construction time frame was set by the State Government. This project has all the elements you can imagine of a major commercial project.
