Description: The new Waurn Ponds Library is a state of the art library and community centre. The library features new digital scanning of all books and will be connected to all libraries within the City of Greater Geelong.

The building structure is predominately steel and concrete. The feature polished black precast panels displays a motif of the area which is etched into the concrete panel. The panels were made in South Australia and transported to Waurn Ponds by a convoy of 8 semi trailer trucks. The exterior is encased with a steel screen which will feature the same motif lazer cut into each of the 600 individual panels. The glazing installed is a special self cleaning glass with special double glazed louvers manufactured in Germany. The building consists of two levels. The ground level being made up of a reading lane, community hub, collections area, customer service and returns areas all amenities, large childrenís play area and external childrenís deck. You can take the stairs to the 1st floor or take the elevator as well. The 1st floor is a vast area broken into 3 main spaces with staff offices as well. The feature of the 1st floor is itís angled ceilings and amazing feature timber drum. The drum is made of over 400 individual ply fins that span from the ceiling and penetrate through to the ground floor. The outside will also be fully landscaped with spotted gum decking board walks linking the library to the new Aquatic centre, dry creek beds and exposed aggregate paving.
