Sacred Heart College
Description: The Sacred Heart College Learning Resource and Student Centre involved the refurbishment and merger of two existing buildings to create a modern open plan Learning Centre over four split levels and the new fully equipped college canteen.
The refurbishment required the existing buildings to be stripped back to their skeletal structure before extending the footprint of the buildings as well as the addition of an enclosed bridge to link the new Learning Centre with the adjacent 150 year old two story brick and bluestone classroom building.
The external cladding is a combination of glass, Alucobond, perforate mesh, ship lapped timber cladding and Vitrapanel. Internally the large atrium in the centre of the building divides the four open plan split levels, all accessible by the new lift, and the existing steel and concrete structure is exposed between the acoustic ceiling panels.
The adjacent courtyard and dance studio were also transformed with a combination of timber decking, synthetic grass and coloured concrete paving to provide a large low maintenance multipurpose area for outdoor performances and general play.
The location of the project was right in the middle of the school, this highlights the skill and experience of Lyons Construction to handle all of the difficult aspects of working in confined areas and school environments.
