Lyons Construction is the 2011 Regional Builder of the Year

On Friday 12th August at the Master Builders Association of Victoria awards ceremony held at the Crown Palladium Lyons Construction were awarded the 2011 Regional Builder of the Year.

Managing Director Gary Iacono said “It’s a great achievement and it acknowledges all the hard work by our staff. You don’t win these awards alone, you win as a team and it gives recognition to everyone involved.”

The Kardinia International College’s new Katsumata Centre is a superb structure with many exciting features.

The new Katsumata Centre is named after the late Yoshimaro Katsumata the school’s founder. This magnificent building combines both striking design and multipurpose functionality.

The complex building program includes of an entrance foyer, multi-use sports courts, spin room, general classroom, change room facilities, staff offices and a recreation room. The most unique feature of the building is who the main gymnasium space can convert from sports courts to a 900 seat theatre for assemblies and performances.  The retractable seating imported from Korea and used for the first time is Australia assembly required exhaustive collaboration between Lyons Construction and the engineers based in Korea.

The imposing exterior comprises of steel, glass and alucobond cladding. Architects James Deans & Associates spent four months detailing the faceted glass facade, combined with the angular coloured alucobond the facade reflects the light in multiple angles adding to the impressive composition.  Inside the building hundreds of square metres of Aktar panelling were used to the walls and ceilings all installed to intricate patterns.

The sprung timber flooring and tiling throughout the building also deserve special note for the quality of material and workmanship. The entry foyer features magnificent etched panels, timber panelling and tiling to provide a truly stunning entrance into the complex.
